A channel having it's own Facebook or Twitter account makes it easier for fans to keep updated with their favourite channels and it also advertises the channel and the shows which helps boost the viewers.

Pretty Little Liars
Pretty Little Liars is known for creating a social media buzz, but they took promoting to the next level for the summer finale for August 2012. They announced that someone on the show would be 'guilty of the ultimate betrayal'. So to give the episode more excitement they took to social media to create a campaign called #TheBetrAyal to get the fans talking about who would be revealed. They created an app called #TheBetrAyal Suspect Tracker. The Pretty Little Liars summer finale became #1 most social TV series episode in history, breaking the record with more than 1.6 million comments according to SocialGuide this buzz starting to form when the campaign was released three weeks before the finale.
