TV channel

My original ideas for my new TV channel is called Radioactive. I chose the name Radioactive because the genre of my TV show is supernatural and I thought the name went well with the genre because the word radioactive is powerful and dangerous. I wanted the age group of my TV show to be for young adults ranging from about 16+ because fantasy is becoming very popular, shows like The Vampire Diaries and Teen Wolf are known widely, even films are becoming popular featuring the fantasy/sci-fi genre like The Hunger Games, The Maze Runner and Twilight. I originally wanted to launch my channel in the UK but now I would like to broaden this and launch it in the US as well as the UK to grab a wider target audience. Majority of supernatural TV shows are produced by American companies and because of that American audience are in favour of shows like this.

Genre of TV channel

The genre of the TV channel I would like to create will be about fantasy and supernatural beings. This will include creatures along the lines of zombies, vampires, werewolves, faeries, shadow hunters and so on. I have decided upon fantasy as my genre because there's a large gap in the market as a typical TV channel is like BB1 based on shows like EastEnders. Fantasy is becoming a more popular in the UK and especially in the US after doing research on popular TV shows. I also feel like there is a wider variety on TV shows when it comes to fantasy for example Game of Thrones to Doctor Who caters for a lot of people.

Inspirational TV shows

The inspiration behind my TV channel is shows like Games of Thrones, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries, Supernatural and a lot more. The reason I've chose to base my channel around shows like this is because a lot of young adults watch a lot of television, so I think there is a gap in the market for a TV channel like this. I also don’t think there is a channel that is specifically along these lines.

Budgets

For my channel the shows I would like to feature would mean the budget would have to be at the top end of the scale. Game of Thrones costs on average about $6 million per episode and  had a budget for the first season alone costing $60 million.

The typical TV channel involves a lot of soap type shows but my inspiration for my TV channel is SYFY and FOX TV  because I wanted to do something outside of the box and supernatural/fantasy genre shows are more popular to my chosen target audience.

The shows above are the type of shows I would like to be featured on my channel, the shows above are stereotypical for younger people and that’s why I think they would be a great asset on my channel.
